Everything an empty house needs done for it over the winter.
Inside
- Heating running, thermostat at the agreed setting, temperature noted
- Leaks under sinks, around toilets, the water heater and the sump pump
- Taps run for a few seconds and toilets flushed, to avoid stagnant water and dry traps
- Power on, fridge and freezer running
- Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors quiet
- Doors and windows closed and intact
- Smells, humidity, signs of mould or pests
Outside
- Snow build-up on the roof and ice at the roof edge
- Walkways and driveway cleared (snow removal optional)
- Visible damage: gutters, siding, windows
- Flyers and newspapers removed
After every visit
- Report in your portal the same day: checklist, photos, videos, notes
- Dated visit log, to hand to your insurer if needed
- An immediate call if something is wrong
Visit after an outage or storm
After a power outage, a deep freeze or a snowstorm, we check that the heating restarted, that nothing froze and that the roof is holding up.
$55 + taxes per visit.
When something goes wrong
Frozen pipe, leak, heating failure: we shut off the water, call you, then find the plumber or electrician, let them in, stay on site and photograph the work.
Coordination fee: 15% of the value of the work, for a one-visit repair. The contractor bills you directly.

Our role, simply put
Nid Chaud is a home maintenance and inspection service. Plumbing and electrical repairs are done by licensed contractors, never by us: we find them, let them in and stay on site.
If we find damage, we notify you right away.
